Hayes & Yeading made it four wins on the bounce with a 3-0 victory over lowly Yate Town at the SKYex with the three points earned pushing United into the top half of a very congested table.

Manager Paul Hughes made a single enforced change to the starting line-up in the abandoned Met Police game with Adam Liddle coming into the side for the injured Reece Cole. Liddle’s place on the bench going to under 18s prospect Hikram Olaiya.

United were out of the blocks quickly and in just the second minute Moses Emmanuel and Adam Liddle combined with the latter sending the ball ahead to Hassan Jalloh, his first time strike from the edge of the box being pushed away by Yate ‘keeper Martin Horsell.

Ten minutes later the visitors fired across a corner from the right, the ball was headed out defensively by Emmanuel with the ball then being headed back along the edge of the box to Darren Mullings who hooked his volley just over the United crossbar.

On 22 minutes a nice sweeping United move saw Stan Flaherty feed the ball to Taylor Miles, he picked out the run of Cameron Green on the left and his low centre was met first time by Sanmi Odelusi but his effort went just the wrong side of the upright.

As we hit the final ten minutes of the first half, Jalloh and Emmanuel combined with the former seeing his effort on the stretch easily dealt with by Horsell.

With four minutes of the half remaining a neat clip over the head of defender Toby Raison saw Liddle through on goal, his powerful drive being pushed behind by Horsell for a corner. The initial kick was cleared away for another on the opposite side, this time Miles firing the ball in from the left and straight onto the head of skipper Charlie Wassmer who planted the ball in the corner of the net for his third of the season and United went in a goal ahead at the interval.

Within three minutes of the re-start United could have had three but had to settle for a spectacular one.

In the 47th minute a perfect ball over the top saw Emmanuel win the ball against a pair of Yate defenders and make space to shoot only to be denied by Horsell and when the ball came out to Liddle he hit a sweet volley that again Horsell pushed away.

Just a minute later though United were initially cursing referee Kyle for pulling the play back for a foul when it appeared Cameron Green had broken free inside the box however Miles had other ideas when he took the free-kick from the left corner of the box and fired it past all and sundry with an unstoppable shot that flew past the wall and over Horsell into the far corner.

The quick second from United seemed to knock the stuffing out of the visitors and the game settled in to a midfield stalemate with neither side looking like changing the score until the visitors created a half chance in the 70th minute when a cross from the right was slid away by Jerry Wiltshire but only as far as Calvin Dinsley who fired the ball goalwards only for Wiltshire to again stand in his way, this time the United defender getting his head to the shot to clear the danger without Dan Wilks having to make a save.

Within a minute United were back on the attack as Liddle broke free on the left, his shot was blocked out to Miles who saw his 20 yard effort held by Horsell.

In the final ten minutes a perfect chip over the Yate defence from substitute Danny Green sent Emmanuel away, he duly rounded the diving Horsell before uncharacteristically firing over the visitors goal.

The Bluebells went close to making it a shaky last few minutes when Liban Ibrahim and James Byrne combined on the right with Byrne’s centre being met on the volley by Zak Drew however his effort was too high to trouble Wilks.

As we entered stoppage time Emmanuel sent strike partner Liddle on a chase for a throughball, the United striker reaching the ball seconds before a sliding Horsell which saw the stopper send Liddle crashing to the ground with referee Kyle pointing to the spot. Three minutes of treatment for the United striker and subsequent replacement by Jamie Hanlon occurred before the spot kick could be taken, Emmanuel smashing the ball home in what by now was the fifth minute of added time and this sealed a 3-0 victory for the hosts.
