Hayes & Yeading’s poor run of results continued on Saturday as Paul Hughes’ side failed to register a victory for the sixth game in a row. Things are starting to look up in recent weeks with players returning from injury however they still need time and minutes on the field to get fully up to speed in such a competitive division while the constant need to change goalkeepers is certainly not helping. This game saw a debut for emergency signing Callum Coulter, the ‘keeper who had trialled with United pre-season, coming in from Ashford Town (Middlesex) to cover Dan Wilks’ suspension with the starting XI also seeing Cameron Green and Jerry Wiltshire return from injury and 19 year-old striker Florian Envoudou Ada coming back from a spell on dual registration at Westfield. Things could not have started worse for United and new stopper Coulter as with just 13 minutes played he slid out to collect an inconspicuous throughball only to spill it and despite two attempts to regain possession it was the Hartley striker who gained control of the ball and fed it to former United midfielder Paul Hodges who fired home easily past the covering defenders on the line. The visitors lead was to only last three minutes however as Sanmi Odelusi collected the ball just outside the Hartley area on the left before cutting inside and firing low past ‘keeper Damian Niemczycki into the far corner of the net. Ten minutes later a Reece Cole free-kick played in from the left seemed to catch everybody out and with no contact in the centre the ball sailed through and bounced over onto the roof of the visitors net. Within 60 seconds though the visitors were ahead with more than a touch of fortune. Zidan Akers broke free on the right flank and cut inside the United box leaving his marker for dead, after more than one chance for the United defence to clear his cross, the ball dropped to Hodges who saw his miss-hit shot come off his shin and loop over Coulter into the United net. One further chance in the opening 45 minutes saw Kingsley Eshun collect the ball on the left before picking out Kyen Nicholas in the middle, this time Coulter was quickly down to block the striker’s shot away and thus deny the visitors a third. Paul Hughes made a change at the break with fit again Taylor Miles coming into the action in place of Cameron Green with Dan Wishart switching back to left-back. Sadly however the second 45 was to provide even less goalmouth action than the first with defences very much on top. A brace of chances came United’s way just before the hour mark. Firstly a fine forward pass to Moses Emmanuel saw the striker show excellent touch to control the ball before seeing his 20 yard shot fly just the wrong side of the upright and just two minutes later Cole clipped the ball in to the Hartley box, Emmanuel despite falling at the time managed to get to the ball on the volley but again his effort went wide of the target. Chances wise that was it until stoppage time with the United goal hardly being threatened and the visitors goal pretty much the same although the constant stop/start for Hartley players to be cautioned for time wasting did nothing to help the game flow. Deep in stoppage time a Cole corner dropped to Emmanuel in the six yard box but the visitors defence crowded him out and managed to block his effort on the line with follow-ups again being cleared and at the final whistle it was the visitors who took home maximum points and United have to regroup once more as we look to push our season in the right direction.
