Hayes & Yeading’s first real pre-season friendly saw Paul Hughes’ side grab a last gasp equaliser against National League South side Hampton & Richmond Borough on the artificial turf at Bedfont Sports on a very hot Saturday afternoon. The first twenty minutes saw both sides taking stock of each other with very little in the way of chances, an early shout for a penalty from the Beavers was turned away by the referee and ten minutes later at the other end a clear shove in the back on Moses Emmanuel by Dean Inman also went unpunished by the man with the whistle. In the 25th minute a United corner was met by the latest trialist Jean-Baptiste Fischer but his header was wide of Alan Julian’s goal. Seven minutes later at the other end a deep corner kick was headed back across goal by former United skipper Dean Inman with Tommy Wood firing over under pressure in the centre. The final minutes of the half saw a brace of chances for United to take the lead. Fischer outpaced Jack Morrell but Julian was down quickly to block the ball away and then in stoppage time a neat exchange between trialist Hanni Berchiche and Jordan Norville-Williams saw the former shoot low for goal only to be denied by Julian’s outstretched boot and we went in scoreless at the break. The start of the second half brought 10 changes for the Beavers and 7 for United as both managers took the chance to get minutes on the field into the legs of their charges. The Beavers opened the half quicker and two early chances came their way. Stefan Ilic tried his luck from the edge of the box just seconds after the re-start but United’s latest trialist ‘keeper Callum Coulter held on comfortably and a couple of minutes later Tyrique Springer tried his luck from 20 yards out, his effort only just clearing the United goal. Things started to settle with United coming forwards more as the half progressed and just past the hour mark the best chance of the game so far saw a couple of United’s trialist strikers combine only to be thwarted as Hampton ‘keeper Endurance Johnson stuck out a firm hand to push the shot to safety. Three minutes later the National Leaguers opened the scoring as Dante Thompson-Frempah sent Brandon Barzey through and he smashed the ball home from just inside the box. As the heat started to take its toll, the last ten minutes threw up more chances, capped off by an equaliser at the death for United. For United an excellent cross from Ayo Faniyan on the left saw a pair of defenders smash the ball against each other with the ball looping goalwards but into the safe arms of Johnson and this was followed quickly at the other end with a dipping shot from Zak Fraser-Grante that went inches over the United goal. Just two minutes remained when Romey Meoded pinged the ball left to Faniyan who cut inside and shot low but did not really trouble Johnson and at the other end on 90 minutes Thompson-Frempah gathered the ball on the edge and turned his marker before firing into the side netting. Two minutes into added time Faniyan again cut in from the left and this time his shot had more power, Johnson pushed the ball away but only to the incoming Fischer who tapped in with the last touch of the game to earn United a deserved draw.
