After earning a hard fought replay at Farnborough on Saturday, Hayes & Yeading’s injury hit side exited this seasons Emirates FA Cup with a bit of a whimper at the SKYex on Tuesday evening.

Things could not have started worse for Paul Hughes’ side as the National League South visitors took the lead after less than ninety seconds when Amos Nasha lost possession in the middle of the park and an instant throughball saw Hisham Kasimu race into the United box to fire past Jacob Adams.

In the tenth minute a chance for United opened up when Taylor Miles collected the ball on the left corner of the Farnborough area before moving across toward the centre and hitting a dipping shot that only just cleared Jack Turner’s crossbar.

With the visitors dominating possession but not really creating that much, the next half chance came in the 26th minute when Liam Ferdinand collected the ball in the United area and turned to shoot only for his effort to be blocked by a well timed Cameron Black challenge and the danger was cleared.

Five minutes from the break another chance for United came when Miles curled a free-kick in to the ‘Boro area, Ollie Robinson getting just enough of a flick on the ball to take it away from the head of the on-coming Black and a half of very few chances closed out with the visitors a goal ahead.

An early chance for the visitors after the break saw Ferdinand win the ball out on the left, he advanced into the central area and his initial effort was snuffed out by the United defence and when the ball rolled back to the striker his effort was comfortably held by Adams.

Soon after an opening for United saw Luke Brophy find Miles on the right, his low centre being played out for a corner by a sliding ‘Boro defender. Miles took the corner kick which was met by skipper Charlie Wassmer but his header was too high to trouble Turner.

Farnborough continued to dominate the ball without overly causing to many problems for the United defence, the home side however were relying on breakaways against an extremely well organised visitors defence. One such break came on 68 minutes as a smart ball over the top of the Farnborough defence found substitute Bruno Tavares, he advanced into the area under the challenge of three recovering defenders but with little support he was tackled at the last second as he was about to shoot.

The final ten minutes saw a long range Michael Fernandes effort easily dealt with by Adams and a minute later at the opposite end Miles floated in a free-kick that was met by Black but his header was equally easily dealt with by Turner.

With eight minutes remaining and United pushing everything forwards the visitors caught us with a sharp, incisive game ending breakaway as Fernandes collected a pass in the left channel and moved infield before craftily chipping the ball over the advancing Adams to effectively put the tie to bed.
