Waltham Abbey 1
Hayes & Yeading United 3

A youthful Hayes & Yeading side, starting XI average age just under 20, more than proved themselves by helping United through to the third round of the Southern League Cup with 17 year-old former Panathinaikos youngster Aleko Aliaj scoring twice on his debut to see him become the youngest ever player to find the net at senior level for Hayes & Yeading United.

Things didn't start off too well though as the hosts took the lead after just four minutes when Prince Domafriyie was allowed to run straight through the middle before unleasing an unstoppable shot that Tyla Dickinson had no chance with, in fact this could have been the hosts second as a minute before Klajdi Cano was through on goal but denied by Dickinson's quick reactions.

In the 14th minute with United still settling into a pattern with players getting used to playing together, the home side almost doubled the advantage when an Abbey player turned in the box in front of goal, Dickinson blocked the first effort with the follow-up being cleared off the line by Jack Williams who was making a welcome return to United having re-signed from Hemel Hempstead a week previous.

With the game settling into a more even pattern of play, United equalised in spectacular fashion on 17 minutes. Aleko Aliaj collected the ball on the left edge of the hosts box, his shot was blocked away but as the loose ball ran to Tyler Goodrham he instantly picked his spot and hoisted an inch perfect lob over 6' 10" 'keeper Simon Jorgensen from 20 yards out.

Another chance for Abbey came soon after but Dickinson was again quickly off his line to block and grab the ball from the strikers feet and then ten minutes later Goodrham and Aliaj combined with the latter seeing his shot held by Jorgensen in the hosts goal.

In the 35th minute United took the lead, again in fine style. Under 18s leading scorer Harley Sells fed the ball left to Aliaj and with the deftest of touches he clipped the ball over the giant 'keeper from the corner of the box into the Abbey net and in doing so became the Clubs youngest ever goalscorer at senior level.

Just before the break the home side almost drew level but again it was the fine form of Dickinson that kept them at bay, the United stopper saving low down from substitute Ibitayo Oyebola and the half ended with United a goal to the good with four players completing the opening 45 minutes of their debuts.

Minutes into the second half Jorgensen was almost lobbed again, Goodrham played a neat ball forwards to under 18s skipper Romey Meoded, he controlled the ball wide on the right and struck a goalbound lob that saw Jorgensen backpeddling before catching the effort right under his crossbar.

Shortly after another opening was carved out by a pair of United's under 18 side as Tom Barrett sent Sells through but Jorgensen stood up well and got his huge frame to the ball, blocking the shot away to safety.

On the hour the hosts had a brace of chances to draw level. Nathaniel Orafu raced through the middle only for his shot to be deflected wide of the target by the United defence. The resultant corner kick was met by recently arrived substitute Asher Silverman but his header was pushed wide at full stretch by Dickinson.

Five minutes later 16 year-old Trent Headley won possession in the middle of the park and played the ball forwards to Meoded, his 25 yard effort took a deflection but Jorgensen was quick enough to get down to grab the ball before it crossed the line.

As the game move to its conclusion, Aliaj saw a 20 yard effort held by Jorgensen before the same player sealed the victory in added time. Substitute Jhamar McDonald broke away on the right flank before pulling the ball back to Aliaj who fired home from the edge of the box, squeezing his drive between 'keeper and post to seal a memorable debut.
