Hayes & Yeading continued the pre-season programme with a 4-1 victory at Ashford Town (Middlesex) on a sunny Tuesday evening at the Robert Parker Stadium.
Manager Paul Hughes put out a similar starting line-up to the game at Uxbridge with Jake Sheppard returning while a further trialist was also given a run out.
United started the game well and in the ninth minute Jordan Norville-Williams played the ball up the left side to Moses Emmanuel, the United striker cutting inside a defender before firing just wide of Paul McCarthy's goal.
Two minutes later it was the turn of 17 year-old United stopper Lewis Lavin to deny the hosts when an initial shot fell kindly to a home player, Lavin was quickly down to block the effort away at close quarters and just a minute later at the other end Emmanuel again went close, having collected the ball from trialist Hassan Jalloh, his shot went across the hosts goal and inches wide of the far post.
A four minute spell just before the first half reached its midpoint saw United take the lead, get pegged back and then take the lead once more. The scoring opened up on 19 minutes when skipper Liam McDevitt played the ball across the park to Norville-Williams, he in turn crossed low to Emmanuel who coolly slotted the ball past McCarthy.
Just a couple of minutes later however the hosts were level when a free-kick into the box took several deflections before falling to former United defender George Spiers and he beat Lavin from close range. United however went straight back on the attack an earned a corner kick. Norville-Williams picked out defender Azeez Alabi and he volleyed home giving McCarthy no chance.
Just a minute later United almost had a third when Jalloh collected the ball in the area and tried to beat McCarthy at the near post and he almost did as only a defenders outstretched boot took the ball wide of the target.
A chance apiece remained in the half as for the hosts a shot from the edge of the box sailed across the face of goal and wide and at the other end for United Norville-Williams again found space on the left, his ball inside found Francis Amartey who saw his shot palmed out and then grabbed at the second attempt by McCarthy.
It took United just 36 seconds from the re-start to increase the lead when Amartey collected the ball inside the home box on the right, he moved his way through two tackles before unselfishly picking out Jalloh at the far post and he swept the ball past McCarthy from close range.
Ten minutes later United had a fourth. Amartey collected the ball on the right wing before setting it back for Jake Sheppard, his centre was met in the middle by Emmanuel who headed home his second of the evening.
Little in the way of chances came from then until the final ten minutes with both sides making changes in the meantime. On 82 minutes Jamie Hanlon fed the ball into the path of Amos Nasha who hit a shot from fully 25 yards that McCarthy pushed away at full stretch and just a couple of minutes later Hanlon won the ball in the Ashford half and fed it to fellow substitute Harley Sells, his shot from the edge of the box being kept out by the boot of McCarthy and the game ended with a 4-1 victory for United.
We thank our hosts for the workout and wish them well for the coming campaign.
