Paul Hughes’s men matched the club’s Step 3 record of three league games unbeaten with another three points at The SKYex in glorious September sunshine.

It was an even opener in the sunshine with both sides struggling to find a final pass but it was United who had the first real opportunity on twenty seven minutes. A moment of individual flair from the probing Omar Rowe midway inside the Yate half, saw him cut inside on his left foot and shoot from the edge of the D. Yate goalkeeper Adam Forster dived full stretch to his left to parry the shot and quickly gathered the loose ball.

The breakthrough came on the half hour mark. Dejon Noel-Williams skipped down the right edge of the box before drilling a low cross that was collected by Leo Donnellan who shook off his marker and touched the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net

On thirty seven minutes Ogo Obi forced Forster to turn his 35 yard effort round his right hand upright and a few moments later Donnellan whipped a ball across the top of the 6 yard box but nobody was on hand to get a touch.

Just before the break as United only half managed to clear their lines, Adam Price hit a first time volley from 25 yards out but wide of the target and moments later Mark Childs had to be alert to push a further effort around his post.

United made a change up front at half time with Elliot Benyon on for Noel-Williams but it was Yate who had an early impact. A corner from the right was looped to the far post and as Yate captain Nicholas Peare challenged Ismail Yakubu, Josh Ford was given a free header for the equaliser.

At the other end on fifty-one minutes Rowe again tested the visiting defence. Collecting the ball outside the D he drifted left and let fly with a low drive but goalkeeper Forster safely gathered. On the hour Dylan Switters made space for himself top left of box but his right footed shot was curled beyond far post.

Two minutes later in the United box, Keano Robinson over stretched as the ball got away from him and when Peare went down under the challenge, the referee blew for a penalty.
Olly Mehew stepped up and drilled the spot kick low to Child’s right but the United keeper was more than a match, making a good save before gathering the loose ball.

United still looked the most likely to score again and Forster reacted quickly to clear a long ball over the top as Obi chased through and the United striker also went close after Benyon played him in after a long diagonal ball by Switters, but Obi couldn’t hit the target.

On 82 minutes however he didn’t make the same mistake. Moving the ball from left foot to right he curled right footed low into the far corner for his fourth goal of the season and to give United back the lead.

Before the game was out goalkeeper Forster was to foil Benyon doing enough to ensure the striker’s eventual shot was off target and Rowe touched the ball past the ‘keeper only to see the effort end wide of the goal.

An off the field melee in front of the dugouts led to coach Clark Jenner being shown a red card in injury time but United held firm.
