Hayes & Yeading made it nine points in eight days with a last ditch come from behind win at the SKYex against Gosport Borough on Saturday afternoon.

United started well and in just the second minute a Jake Sheppard cross was headed out as far as Connor Toomey, his lay off found Scott Donnelly but his shot from just outside the box was off target.

In the eleventh minute the ball was chipped forwards by Donnelly in the direction of Francis Amartey but the ball beat the United striker allowing Borough ‘keeper Kingsley Latham. Latham immediately fired the ball upfield towards Mat Paterson but Jack Smith was quickly off his line to block the striker at the edge of his box sending the ball into touch.

Almost immediately Sheppard collected the ball on the right side at the back, his long pass forwards found Manny Duku, the United striker turned into the box past Michael Elechi but his shot was blocked wide by Ryan Woodford.

Just before the half hour Mark James Clark fed Duku but his 20 yard effort was dragged wide of the target and just a couple of minutes later Duku was away again, this time on the right where he raced past Elechi before playing the ball low to Amartey in the centre, his shot on the turn being deflected over by the Gosport defence.

As the watch struck 45, a rare advance from the visitors saw a centre from the right wing drop over the United defence with the ball dropping neatly to Paterson who coolly slid the ball past Smith to give the visitors the lead at the break.

Eight minutes after the restart United were level in fine style. Omar Rowe fed Amartey on the left wing, two attempts by the Borough defence to clear his centre saw the ball drop perfectly to Sheppard who rifled home a drive from just outside the area giving Latham no chance.

Just past the hour a centre from the Borough left dropped for Charlie Davis but thankfully for United, his effort struck his own player in the shape of Theo Lewis and United cleared the ball to safety.

Just two minutes later another good chance fell to the visitors as a cross from the left was met by a stooping Tyrell Skeen-Hamilton but with Smith scrambling, his header went just past the outside of the post much to the hosts relief.

In the 76th minute Duku collected the ball in the right channel before turning Sam Roberts inside out but sadly his pull back aimed for the oncoming Donnelly took a deflection and went straight to Latham in the Borough goal.

Soon after Duku headed wide from a Toby Little cross and then Clark won the ball in the middle of the park before clipping it over the top for Amartey, Latham came out to head but only gave the ball to the United striker who hoisted an effort over his shoulder toward the unguarded net only for firstly Woodford to hook the ball off the line before Roberts headed the ball clear as it came back down.

As stoppage time arrived, a Duku was brought down on the left just outside the Borough area and United were awarded a late free-kick. Donnelly played the kick to the far post where Keano Robinson arrived to head home from close range.

In the fifth minute of added time a free-kick from the left by the visitors dropped into a scramble inside the United six yard box before a shot was pushed wide by Smith with the resultant corner being forced clear as the referee drew the game to an end.

This game saw a United debut for recent signing Sanmi Odelusi while the visitors had Aaron McCreadie in their line-up just days after his loan at United had ended, we thank him for his time at United and wish him all the best in his future career back at Oxford United.
