Dorchester Town 2
Hayes & Yeading Utd

United raced to a three goal lead with only a third of the game gone at a very wet and blustery Dorchester Town, only for the Magpies to take advantage of two defensive mistakes to make it a much closer game.

Jacob Cook scored his first goal for the club after a blockbuster of a shot from 30 yards, beating the 'keeper easily to his right hand side. Several good chances followed for United over the following ten minutes, with the highlight being a through ball from Toby Little which found Scott Donnelly, but he could not trouble the 'keeper from the edge of the box.

However, the Dorchester goal was again breached in the 18th minute, when a good through ball found James Clark in space, and a calm short past the keeper put United 2-0 up - and deservedly so.

A cricket score looked like it would be in evidence, as good work from Ogo Obi on the left saw James Clark notch his fifth of the season with a simple header to make it 3-0, with only a third of the match gone.

This however seemed to awaken the Dorchester team, and with everyone expecting a foul to be given on Ogo Obi, the ball travelled to Dorchester's Tom Bath in a suspiciously offside position, but with no flag being raised he travelled with the ball and placed it in to the net to bring down the deficit.

It was 3-2 just five minutes later when a defensive lapse saw Bath again clear of the defence, and all of the good early work by United appeared to be coming undone at the seams.

United remained resolute though in some testing conditions, helped by the 3G pitch, which thankfully did not result in waterlogging as had been the case back in the Conference South days!

The second half saw a lot of battling between the two sides, but neither goalkeeper was seriously tested until Childs was at hand to tip over a speculative shot from Dorchester.

Defensively, United held on resolutely and the three points were a well deserved present for the 20 or so hardy United fans who made the long midweek journey from Middlesex to Dorset.
