Hayes & Yeading moved through to the semi-finals of the Southern League Cup on a rainy Tuesday evening courtesy of a quadruple strike from Mitchell Weiss, the second player in United history to hit four in a single match.

The first chance actually fell to the visitors though, a deep corner picked out George Fenton at the far post, his header being cleared off the line by a well positioned Cole Brown.

United then found their feet and twice worked Saints stopper Carl Dennison. The first effort saw a Lewis Putman drive bounce back off the ‘keepers chest before being gathered and this was followed minutes later by a fine tip over to deny Brown.

The visitors struck first on 20 minutes when an Isaac Olorunfemi cross from the right pitched in the centre of the United box with Tyrone Pink getting in front of his marker at the far post to head past Danny Boness.

United were behind for about 90 seconds though when a cross from the right side was headed past Dennison by Mitchell Weiss at the far stick.

Seconds later United almost had another, Putman controlling the ball before sliding it past Dennison and against the left hand post with the ball going along the goal line and wide of the opposite post.

Dennison then denied Weiss a second before Josh Kelly broke in to the United box at the other end, his neat back-heeled pass finding Kofi Lockhart-Adams who was denied by an excellent Jack Smith block. The resultant corner found the head of Gary Burrell but his header was too high.

Just 2 minutes later United took the lead. Callum Adebiyi’s throw-in was flicked on by Putnam to Weiss, the striker coolly curling the ball beyond Dennison into the far corner.

Lockhart-Adams again went close minutes later, this time being denied by Brown who swept the ball away from the foot of post and it was less than a minute later that Weiss completed his hat-trick. The striker took over possession inside the Chalfont half of the field and raced forwards before firing past the exposed Dennison.

Kelly and Lockhart-Adams again worked an opening in stoppage time but Boness was equal to the effort, the United stopper tipping the ball wide of the target.

United started the second period in the same fashion with Putman finding the outside of a post before a defensive slip by Ryan Wharton gifted possession to Weiss as he ran unhindered on to a volleyed clearance from the United defence and slid home his fourth past the on-rushing Dennison.

Shortly after Dennison denied Anthony Edgar following good approach play from Frankie Jones and then ten minutes later another opening at the other end saw Lockhart-Adams blaze over from 10 yards out.

Two minutes later Boness pulled off a superb stop to deny Alex Paine who had met a Pink centre, the ball looked to be heading into the top corner only for the young United ‘keeper to reach at full stretch to tip the ball over.

As the game moved towards its conclusion, Chalfont substitute Luke Maguire was denied by Boness and this was quickly followed by a chance for United substitute Naseem Majeed who raced into the Saints box only to be denied by Dennison who pushed his effort wide.

Chalfont were to have the final say however as a ball forwards from the left side by Olorunfemi looped up off a tackling boot and sailed past Boness into the top corner.
