Garry Haylock's charges have yet to concede a goal in his second reign, after another clean sheet against Concord Rangers on a chilly Essex afternoon.

With a new formation being employed, a standard 4-5-1, with Josh Scott ploughing a lone furrow up front, being supported by the midfield quintet of Elliot Benyon, Luke Williams, Lewis Ferrell, skipper Adam Everitt and Mason Spence, supporting the sole attacking man admirably.

The match was a very even affair, as the teams battled with a strong wind, and a pitch that was showing signs of wear, with the drainage works taking place over the summer leaving the touchlines very patchy.

The first chance came to Concord Rangers in the seventh minute, when striker Ben Greenhalgh scooped his shot over the bar, only for a couple of minutes later, Adam Everitt returning the favour, and shooting over as well.

The first goal of the game was to come United's way, courtesy of a Josh Scott penalty. Adam Everitt received the ball in midfield from Lewis Ferrell, and his angled through ball allowed Josh Scott to lose his man and put the ball across the middle of the 18 yard box. Everitt had made a run in to the box, and in attempting to round a Concord defender, tumbled over the outstretched leg, giving referee Ian Cooper a simple penalty decision. Josh Scott then despatched the penalty to the keepers right.

The only other meaningful action of the first half came from half hearted handball claims from a Concord shot, but these were waved away.

The second half started quietly, as both sides attempted to assert control, with United now heading downhill with the wind. The first real action saw a weak shot put in by Sam Bantick, which was wide of the post and not near to troubling Dan Lincoln in the United goal.

However, it was United who doubled their lead in the 61st minute, with a long clearance from Adam Bygrave being brought under control by Josh Scott. The ball was moved forward to the advancing Luke Williams, who curled a delightful cross which was just missed by the onrushing Adam Everitt, but stealing in at the far post, completely unmarked Elliot Benyon, who made no mistake with the goal wide open in front of him.

In the 78th minute, Luke Williams was unlucky not to make it three, when a mistake by Concord's substitute Nathan Fox let Max Worsfold in on the left. His cross was dug out from the bye line, and Luke Williams' shot missed the near post, with the goalkeeper stranded.

The decisive third goal did eventually come in the 84th minute when good work from substitute Dylan Kearney found man of the match Elliot Benyon in space on the right. His first cross was blocked, but he placed a sublime left foot cross right on to the head of the oncoming Josh Scott at the back post, with the goalkeeper resoundly beaten.

So, with the seventh clean sheet of the season, and without a goal in the against column for the past three games, United move up the table to 15th.
