It is with great sadness that I advise all long standing supporters that former Hayes FC Hon. General Secretary John Price has passed away in the past few days.
John had been a friend to me ever since I became involved with the old club back in the eighties and he was the prime instigator in getting the "sell-on" clause inserted into the Les Ferdinand deal that saw the striker move to Queens Park Rangers and subsequently earn Hayes FC circa £600k from his move to Newcastle.
He may also be remembered by some of the former Yeading FC officials as John helped them out with their player contracts in the early days, much to the consternation of the late Derek Goodall but John was a football man and would do anything to help.
On behalf of all those that knew John at the club I offer our sincere condolences to his lovely wife Mo and all of his family and friends at this sad time.
Three new faces appeared on the bench for United's trip to Swindon Supermarine yesterday as Manager Mark Molesley looks to make changes in his current squad.
First to sign on this past week was experienced Maltese International midfielder Luke Gambin who was last at League 2 side Sutton United.
Next up is 18 year-old striker Ben Heath who was last noted at Halstead Town in the Essex Senior League and the trio is capped off by 21 year-old central defender Eric Ameyaw who was playing under 21 and under 23 football with Premier League side Fulham and recently had a single game for our neighbours Uxbridge.
We welcome all three to the SKYex and hope you have happy and productive stays here at Hayes & Yeading United.
United's rearranged home fixture against Bracknell Town has been pushed back a few weeks and will now take place on Tuesday 16th January 2024, kick-off 19:45.
With the two sides unable to agree an acceptable date for our visit to Totton, the Southern League have stepped in and decreed that the fixture will take place in Hampshire on Tuesday 19th December 2023, kick-off 19:45.
Congratulations to skipper Sanmi Odelusi who joined the United "100 Club" at Salisbury yesterday.
Sanmi has started 93 times for United with a further 7 appearances from the bench making the 100, he has in this time found the net 3 times from his deep midfield anchor role.
With Bracknell Town progressing on penalties yesterday evening in the Isuzu FA Trophy, our scheduled fixture on Saturday 18th November has had to be rearranged.
A new date of Tuesday 12th December has been agreed subject to League approval, kick-off 19:45.
Following yesterdays late postponement by the match referee, the two clubs have agreed that the fixture will now fill the blank Saturday in March with the match now rescheduled for Saturday 9th March 2024.
As always this is subject to Southern League approval.
Sadly despite the best efforts of the United ground staff and with from the outside the pitch looking in pristine condition the match referee deemed that a couple of areas on/off the pitch were in his view unplayable and therefore game was called off at late notice.
We would like to apologise to all supporters who made the trip to the SKYex today but this decision was out of the clubs hands and even an earlier pitch inspection would have been unlikely to have changed things with the final decison in the hands of the appointed match referee.
A new date will be advised once known.
Hayes & Yeading Manager Mark Molesley has this week completed the loan signing of versatile 20 year-old Watford defender Charlie Stallard who is expected to go straight into the squad for todays game against League leaders Gosport Borough.
Charlie can play on the left or in the centre of defence. He joined the Hornets in the summer having been with Cambridge United and subsequently on a development contract with St Neots Town in conjunction with the U's academy last season.
We welcome Charlie to United as he looks to get some more senior football under his belt to push his career at Vicarage Road forwards.
Replicas of our brand new royal blue away shirts will be available from the Club Shop at the SKYex from the home game against Gosport Borough tomorrow.
Shirts are priced at £35 in line with the home shirts with limited sizes and amounts currently available until further stock arrives.
