Tomorrows away match at Tiverton Town has already been called off due to a waterlogged pitch at the Ian Moorcroft Stadium. A new date will be advised once one can be worked out, unfortunately nobody can predict the weather and our best endeavors to save travelling midweek have failed on this occasion however the game would almost certainly have been off anyway had the fixture remained at the SKYex.
With United making it to the Middlesex Senior Cup Final which will be played at Hanwell on Wednesday 19th April, our re-arranged home game against Tiverton Town at the SKYex has now been brought further forwards by 24 hours to Monday 17th April.
The Southern Football League have approved the change to our fixture against Tiverton Town whereby we will now visit them on Saturday 1st April thus hopefully, weather permitting, avoiding another long distance midweek trip for our management, players and supporters. The home game has now been confirmed for Tuesday 18th April at the SKYex although this may change again should United reach the County Cup Final which would be the following evening.
Manager Paul Hughes has made a couple of deadline day moves, firstly moving out on a 28 day loan in order to get game time and to regain fitness after his recent injury is skipper Charlie Wassmer who has been loaned to fellow Southern Premier South side Gosport Borough, he will then be available for the end of the season games and any possible play-off games should he be required. On the additions front it is a warm welcome back to Club clean sheet record holder Jack Smith who returns to United after a long spell out with injury.
Congratulations to versatile right sided player Cole Brown who made his 100th Hayes & Yeading United appearance on Tuesday evening at Salisbury. Cole originally came through the United youth ranks, making his first team debut at age 16 before making his National League South bow the following season. In his first spell with the club he made 33+21 appearances for United without scoring before moving on to Uxbridge in 2017. Returned to United in January 2022 from Hampton & Richmond Borough and has since become a regular and big fans favourite making a further 40+6 appearances and this time has added 7 goals to his United portfolio.
With last night's game in Devon being postponed and with the two sides still yet to meet this season, agreement has been reached for United to switch the home fixture on 1st April to the away game thus avoiding another long distance midweek trip for our management, players and supporters. The home game has been pencilled in for Thursday 20th April at the SKYex, both changes subject to League approval as always.
Having been informed that a pitch inspection was not required at Tiverton, less than an hour later the game was called off for a waterlogged pitch. With little time to go to the end of the season, Secretary Andy Corbett now has the unenviable task of trying to find a new date for the long trip to Devon.
Congratulations to Paul Hughes, his backroom staff and the players for a successful February that has seen the Southern Football League award United the PST Sport Club of the Month trophy in the Southern Premier South for the second time this season. Full story here.
